Bethesda had a meek and humble beginning - not at all like the vibrant city it is today. At first, Bethesda was simply a rural way station, allowing local farmers to transport various products. It gained its name after the local church, which was established in 1820. It wasn’t until the 19th century that Bethesda began to propose and grew into the lively hub it is today.
